About Our Facility
One Charles Center is
located at the intersection of North Charles and West Fayette Streets, adjacent
to and overlooking Center Plaza which is undergoing a major transformation
during the Fall of 2004. The new plaza renovation will resemble those done at
New York City's Bryant Park.
The building was designed by renowned architect Ludwig Miles Van Der Rohe and
was constructed in 1962, with major renovations occurring in 1987 and 1993. The
latter renovation restored the building to its original Van Der Rohe design and
condition.
One Charles Center is a 341,478 square foot, twenty-two-story office building
clad with dark bronze aluminum. It has eight high-speed elevators and one
three-stop hydraulic elevator operating between the garage and main lobby
levels. There is approximately 26,000 square feet of retail space on the street
level and underground parking for tenants and visitors.
The dramatic two-story lobby has two entrances and features a flamed finished
St. Martin's Limestone floor, Verde Issoric marble walls and dark bronze
aluminum columns. Just off the lobby is a one-quarter acre plaza with fountain,
benches, gardens and tables for tenant use.
